About Foz do Iguazu


Foz do Iguaçu (Iguazu River Mouth) is the Brazilian city on the border of Iguaçu Falls. The city is the 7th largest in the state of Paraná. The city's population is approximately 265,000 inhabitants. The city's annual average temperature is 23.8 °C (74.8 °F), the average in the summer is 26.5 °C (79.7 °F) and in the winter 15.4 °C (59.6 °F).

The Iguaçu Falls located on the border of Argentina and Brazil and consisting of approximately 257 individual falls over 2.7 km (1.7 mi) were chosen as one of the "New Natural Seven Wonders of the World.”

Foz do Iguaçu is integrated into a tri-national region, bordering the Argentine city of Puerto Iguazú and the Paraguayan city of Ciudad del Este. The city's economy is based on tourism, with emphasis on trade and services.

Foz do Iguaçu is home of the Itaipu dam, the world's second largest hydroelectric plant in power generation, after the Three Gorges Dam in China. With 20 generator units and 14,000 MW of installed capacity, it approximately 20% of the energy goes to Brazil and 80% goes to Paraguay.

    Itaipu dam



    The greatness of a historic feat of human construction is that the immersion experience of knowing Itaipu Dam allows. Feel small in front of a gigantic engineering project, which can be admired up close, is part of this tour.

    The Itaipu Hydroelectric Plant is recognized as one of the greatest works of modern engineering, the largest hydroelectric power plant in production in the world, and for a long time, was also the largest in size. A monumental building which today is one of the main attractions of Foz do Iguaçu, with an organized tour service that includes several options of tours in the areas of engineering, technology, nature and history of the region.


  • Bird park



    The Bird Park is an opportunity to have contact with birds from different regions of the world, on a tour that brings visitors within aviaries during a walk that unites the contact with nature and knowledge. Located near the National Park of Iguaçu, where are the Iguazu Falls, the Bird Park is one of the largest bird parks in Latin America, besides the display of specimens, the park also develops projects for the conservation and the procreation of some species.



  • Three Borders Landmark



    The new Marco das Três Fronteiras (Three Borders Landmark) can already be considered one of the most beautiful and important tourist attractions of the city of Foz do Iguaçu. Revitalized, with a new proposal, it integrates technology and history in a unique way in the city.



    Inaugurated in 1903, the Three Borders Landmark is composed of three structures, one in Foz do Iguaçu, one in Ciudad del Este and the other in Puerto Iguazú, which are characterized by the flag colors of each country.
  • Buddhist Temple



    The Buddhist Temple is located in a privileged high area of the city where you can get a view of the center of Foz do Iguaçu and Ciudad del Este (Paraguay). The beauty of the place allows closer contact with the Buddhist philosophy, and a moment of peace during the trip.



    The site was built in 1996 and today, in the temple grounds there are over 120 statues, each with its meaning. The highlights is a Buddha statue with 7 meters high, and a temple which creates a very special atmosphere for the site.
  • Ecomuseum



    A visit to the Ecomuseum is a historical and educational experience to complement your visit to the city of Foz do Iguaçu. The museum has a fixed exhibition, which depicts the history of the Itaipu dam, and part of the social and ecological history of the area through pictures, panels, historical pieces and interactive models, and is divided in thematic blocks



  • Iguazú Falls



    To visit the Iguazu Falls is an experience of immersion in nature through walking trails in the woods and the proximity of the immensity of the waterfalls in the Iguazu River.

    The Iguazu Falls annually receive more than 1 million tourists, being recognized worldwide for its beauty. Located within the Iguassu National Park, on the border between Brazil and Argentina (in the cities of Foz do Iguaçu and Puerto Iguazú), has a qualified structure for receiving tourists, with a visitors center, parking, hotel, restaurant, internal buses, additional sightseeing tours, shops, food court and a hiking trail to access the falls.
